Int'l jury debuts in Berlinale

All the international jury members of Berlinale 2014 made their debut on Thursday.

Producer and screenwriter James Schamus is the chairman of the international jury at this year's International Film Festival in Berlin.

Comparing working as a jury to a family, he said: "The family is a space where you can bear with all the people who have profound different opinions and yet can sit at a table again. What brings us together, are movies."

The other jury members are producer Barbara Broccoli, Danish actress Trine Dyrholm, Iranian filmmaker and artist Mitra Farahani, Chinese actor Tony Leung, Austrian actor Christoph Waltz, American actress Greta Gerwig, and French filmmaker Michel Gondry.

When asked about working as a jury, Leung told Xinhua that he enjoys this experince to work as a jury for the first time at Berlinale, as he couldn't have too much chance to watch so much movies due to busy working schedule.

Meanwhile, Waltz has no fixed plan when it comes to how he will approach his work as a member of this year's Berlinale jury, as he said that there is no principles that one can go after.

In the official Berlinale program, 72 countries and regions will show 409 films, among which 20 films will run for the Gold Bear Award from Feb. 6 to 16.

The International Jury decides the award of Golden and Silver Bears in the competition.
