ISLAMABAD, June 17 (Gwadar Pro) - The 6th consignment of anti-COVID-19 medical supplies from China landed in Islamabad to help Pakistan fight against the pandemic.
As per the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, the sixth batch of 68 tonnes supplies includes some 2 million of testing kits, protection suits, N95 masks and protection goggles.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lt Gen Muhammad Afzal thanked the Chinese government and people for providing Pakistan with the urgently-needed medical supplies. "The people of Pakistan and government of Pakistan appreciate this support from the government of China and hope that our friendship will continue to prosper in the future," Afzal said.
Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing said on the occasion that since the outbreak of the disease in Pakistan, China has taken practical actions, including sending batches of medical supplies, sending expert teams and holding meetings on the control and prevention of COVID-19, to enhance Pakistan's ability to curb the disease. The friendship between the two countries has been deepened through the collaborative efforts of combating the pandemic, Yao mentioned.
He further noted that Pakistan still faces a serious situation of curbing the spread of the disease, and China is willing to continue to support Pakistan in the fight against COVID-19.
Pakistan has reported 2,900 COVID-19 fatalities and nearly 151,953 infections so far. The cases, as the experts suggest, are likely to surge till July.
