President Xi Jinping often quotes phrases from ancient Chinese classics in his speeches and in talks with people, in which he gives a precise interpretation of the classics and also endows them with new meaning in the new era.

The second season of Ping Yu Jin Ren, a program about Xi's quotations from classical literature, started airing on CCTV-1 on Thursday. It is produced by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and China Media Group.

Based on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the 12-part series highlights the theme of "remaining true to our original aspiration and keeping our mission firmly in mind", and analyzes the meaning and cultural value of Xi's quotations.

The program mainly focuses on four aspects, namely, leading officials' awareness of Party norms and guidelines, core socialist values, the new development philosophy and the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

In each episode, experts-including Xie Chuntao, vice-president of the Party School of the CPC Central Committee, Huang Yibing, a researcher at the Party History Research Center of the CPC Central Committee, and Guo Jianning, a professor at Peking University-interpret the related theories, and cultural scholars-such as Wang Liqun, Kang Zhen and Meng Man-explain the quotations, as well as their historical and contemporary meanings.

Five to six vivid and true stories are contained in each episode to show the glorious history of the CPC and explain Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

For example, the program features the story of the martyr Chen Shuxiang, a Red Army commander during the Long March, who killed himself in 1934 so that he would not be captured by enemies after he was severely injured, and Du Fuguo, a soldier who lost his eyesight and both hands when trying to protect his fellow soldiers from a landmine explosion in 2018.

The first season was broadcast in China in 2018, and has since been translated into English, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Italian and Russian, and was also aired in many countries worldwide.

Compared with the previous season, the latest one provides a better immersive feeling for the audience with the combination of virtual reality and augmented reality technologies.

It also invites 11 young political instructors, who can offer perspectives that the younger generation are familiar with, to join the discussion.
