ISLAMABAD, Mar. 16 (Gwadar Pro) - Livestock farmers and traders of Pakistan can make huge profits by grabbing their due share in the Chinese market, a former senior official in Sindh Livestock and Fisheries Department told Gwadar Pro.
Ali Akbar Soomro, who retired as the general manager recently, said that Sindh was home to dozens of precious breeds of buffalo, cow, goat and sheep, which were being produced on a mass scale. He said that the Chinese market offered big opportunities for Pakistani farmers and traders involved with the livestock business.
Soomro was commenting on a message of Li Bijian, Chinese Counsel General in Karachi, in which he invited Pakistani businessmen to what he termed as the ‘fully-developed’ Chinese market.
In his message on the conclusion of a 3-day livestock expo organised by Sindh government, the senior Chinese diplomat said that Pakistan and China were ‘iron brothers and sisters’, adding that China was further opening up its market for Pakistani goods and products. He said that Pakistan could export 300 items to China without any tariff under the upgraded Free Trade Agreement between the two countries.
Li Bijian said that the Chinese consulate will do its best and ‘give a big hand’, adding that soon we will see more products of Sindh in the livestock sector going to China.
The Sindh government held the expo from March 13-15 to showcase its livestock sector to national and international investors.
Soomro said that livestock farming was a sprawling business in Sindh and there were countless farms across the province, which produced dozens of precious indigenous breeds of cattle. Livestock traders and farmers have a huge opportunity to tap the enormous Chinese market, he said.
The expert said that investors were heading towards cattle farming in Sindh for its very promising outcomes.
