More than 1.1 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in China as of Thursday, the National Health Commission said on Friday.

The doses administered in China have exceeded 1 billion on June 19, the commission announced on June 20.

China accelerated its pace of free COVID-19 vaccinations for the whole nation in late March. It took China 25 days to climb from 100 million doses to 200 million doses, 16 days to increase from 200 million to 300 million, six days to move from 800 million to 900 million.

China is also committed to promoting equitable vaccine distribution around the world.

China has included four COVID-19 vaccines that have been granted conditional domestic market approval on a list of vaccine products available for export, said the Ministry of Commerce.

The four vaccines are manufactured by the Beijing Institute of Biological Products Co., Ltd., Sinovac Life Sciences Co., Ltd., CanSino Biologics Inc., and the Wuhan Institute of Biological Products Co., Ltd., according to the ministry.

China spares no effort to deliver on its promise in championing international cooperation in fighting the pandemic.

Despite a tight supply and huge domestic demand, China has provided over 350 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines for the international community, including vaccine aid provided for over 80 developing countries and those exported to more than 40 countries.

China has also pledged to provide the first batch of 10 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to COVAX, an initiative aimed to promote equitable access to vaccines initiated by the World Health Organization.

Mao Junfeng, an official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that three Chinese companies are currently co-producing vaccines with eight countries.

Mao added that co-production plans with 10 more countries are currently under discussion.

Experts with the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention have called for vaccine dose schedules to be completed in full to achieve the best possible preventative effect.
