China has brought remarkable economic progress to Xinjiang by lifting people out of poverty and ensuring religious and social freedom for them, said a Pakistani official on Tuesday, hailing China's development achievements in the region.

In an online meeting titled "Xinjiang is a Wonderful Land" held in Islamabad and Xinjiang simultaneously, Deputy Speaker of Pakistan's National Assembly, or the lower house of the country's parliament, Qasim Khan Suri said that through Xinjiang, China has shown the world that it is not only a role model in eradicating poverty, but also an inspiring example of religious harmony.

"The way Chinese Muslims are living their lives in peace and prosperity and the way they are enjoying the freedom to practice their religion is commendable," he said.

Suri said that Pakistan opposes all the false propaganda on Xinjiang because as a close neighbor and friend of China, his country is the witness of the remarkable progress made in the region.

"Xinjiang connects Pakistan and China through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and the project will bring more prosperity in Xinjiang besides uplifting the Pakistani economy," he noted.

Addressing the meeting, Manglik Siyit, vice chairman of the government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region said that Xinjiang has made unprecedented achievements in economic and social development as well as in improving people's livelihood during the last few years.

Thanks to the endeavor to fight against terrorism and extremism, the society of Xinjiang has become more stable, he said, adding that Xinjiang has secured a complete victory against poverty and helped local people live a better life.

The vice chairman noted that despite all the achievements, some forces in the United States and the West have made baseless accusations against Xinjiang, in an attempt to stigmatize and demonize the region, adding that the Pakistani people are welcome to visit Xinjiang and see the facts on the ground with their own eyes.
