A total of $22.54 billion was invested in countries along the Belt and Road Initiative in 2020, which accounted for 14.7 percent of China's overall FDI and also witnessed a year-on-year increase of 20.6 percent, said the 2020 Statistical Bulletin of China's Outward Foreign Direct Investment. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Pakistan's first ever metro train service, the Orange Line, constructed by Chinese companies, started its commercial operation in Lahore in October in 2020. The Orange Line, which created over 7,000 jobs for locals during the construction and will create 2,000 jobs in its operation and maintenance, will further increase local economic activities.
