With a week to go before the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, venues are ready for a simple, safe and splendid Olympic Games.

Curling competitions are scheduled to begin on Feb. 2, two days before the opening ceremony. At the National Aquatics Center, also known as the "Ice Cube", curling sheets were well-set and ice-making went smoothly. Staff were making some finishing touches such as laying carpets and pasting labels on the stones.

"During the Games, the big screen in the 'Ice Cube' will show the curve of curling rocks simultaneously; it will help audience to understand the situation on the sheets," a staff from venue operation team told Xinhua on Thursday.

Though "Ice Cube" is very likely to finish its preparation work before January ends, curlers are not allowed to train here until Feb. 2, and the Chinese athletes are no exception.

The press work area in "Ice Cube" is almost ready. It is equipped with adequate sockets and partitions between seats. Journalists can enjoy coffee, sandwiches and snakes in the media lounge.

Next to the "Ice Cube", Chinese skater Jin Boyang and Zhu Yi were training at the Capital Indoor Stadium. The stadium will host figure skating and short track speed skating competitions during the Winter Olympics.

In the National Biathlon Center, Cross-Country Skiing Center and Genting Snow Park in Chongli, Zhangjiakou, volunteers and staff were preparing for the Winter Olympics in high spirits.

Zhang Ting, the communication manager of the Cross-Country Skiing Center, introduced that the center will witness 15 new Olympic champions in 13 days, including five night sessions during the Winter Olympics.

Official training at the Genting Snow Park will start on Sunday.

"We plan to offer food to media starting from tomorrow, some of them are free. On Sunday, we have a little surprise for them," said Yang Zhongyu, media operation manager of Genting Snow Park.

Volunteer Cao Jiyu said: "I am so excited to be a part of Beijing 2022, and we will do anything we can to provide good service for friends from all over the world."
