By Zafar Hussain
BEIJING, March 5 (China EconomicNet) – The annual Two Sessions are of critical importance to China and also have a huge impact on the wider world. They draw global attention, and offer the world media an opportunity to get the answers to their questions raised for top Chinese leaders and senior officials, said Muhammad Asghar, a senior Pakistani journalist based in China.
“The two sessions are very important and significant not only for China but for the entire world as China is the world's second largest economy and its policies also have global impact. That is why the world is always keen to observe it,” he said in an interview with China Economic Net (CEN).
The term "two Sessions" refers to the annual conferences of the National People's Congress and the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
Muhammad Asghar told CEN that China will continue to promote high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, pursue the Global Development Initiative, promote the shared values of humanity, and be ready to contribute more to world peace and prosperity.
About China’s focus to enhance cooperation with BRI countries, he said that Pakistan is an important country. China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a flagship project under BRI so Pakistan will be looking for more investment opportunities from Chinese entrepreneurs in its Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
Regarding the 5.5 percent GDP growth target set by China for the current year, he stated that it is a balanced and high target keeping in view the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic which had a negative impact on all the world economies. China’s successful campaign against the pandemic is appreciable and is a good example for the world.
Responding to a question about the Communist Party of China (CPC), he mentioned that CPC played a very important role in the development and prosperity of China. Not only on the political front, but it was a key factor behind the socio-economic development of China. Under CPC's leadership, China became the world's second largest economy in a short period and the country has been able to pull out more than 700 million people from poverty which is a miracle and a wonderful example for the world.
While lauding China’s continuous reforms and opening-up policies, he said that "this policy is playing a significant role in the global economy. The exchange of Chinese and Pakistani experts and professionals is beneficial for the two countries as they could learn from each other's experiences and contribute to their development".
He further said that China is a successful development model and he called for further enhancing cooperation and exchanges so that both countries could benefit from the expertise and experiences.
He opined that the government’s work report is the core feature of these two sessions particularly. It is a very comprehensive document that reviews last year's performance and sets goals for domestic and foreign policies for the next year which generate interest from home and abroad.
“The entire world wants to know about China's policies for the current year because China being the world's second largest economy has an impact on the whole world,” he added.
Appreciating the briefing by different senior officials on the sideline of two sessions, he said that they give answers to the different questions raised from domestic and foreign media and explain the policies and plans.
Mr. Asghar also appreciated China’s commitment to world peace and stability.
