Interview: Nobody can stop China's national reunification, says expert
Nobody can stop China's national reunification, said Sudheendra Kulkarni, an India expert, while commenting on Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi's recent visit to China's Taiwan region.
Noting that Pelosi's visit is "an act of extreme provocation," the former chairman of Mumbai-based think-tank Observer Research Foundation said it's a violation of the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques in a recent interview with Xinhua.
By order of succession, Pelosi is the third-highest-ranking official in the U.S. government, he said, adding that the country has "obviously crossed the red line by allowing Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan."
Pelosi has not only violated the UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 and broken the commitments made by her own country, Kulkarni said.
Referring to the results of her visit, the expert said it has seriously undermined China-U.S. relations and the responsibility rests entirely with the United States.
Kulkarni questioned the United States about its real intention behind the visit: "The real purpose is to contain China."
The interests of people in China's Taiwan region are going to be hurt, he said, adding that they are going to suffer because of the acts of provocation by the United States.
"Obviously, (some) people or rather politicians in the United States are short-sighted," he said. "It seems that they cannot live peacefully with the rest of the world. They have to have some trouble all the time in places around the world."
Speaking of possible development of the situation, he said "one thing is certain: China is going to take every step to defeat the conspiracy by the United States, and the United States will come out a loser in this battle."
