Greek students developed AI technology to try on clothes from home
By Theodore Lainas
Thinking about people whose health condition does not allow them to visit clothing stores to try on and buy clothes, Greek students developed an artificial intelligence application that allows these people to virtually try on a store's clothes at home.
It is an application that uses code and artificial intelligence in which a person, by entering a photo of himself, his height and his weight, can choose clothes from various companies that have an online store and see on the screen how these clothes applied to his body.
The application was designed by students of "O Apostolos Pavlos" Schools, as part of their participation in the Student Virtual Business program-competition of "Junior Achievement Greece".
Apart from helping the disabled, the app offers time convenience to all users as they will no longer need to go to the market and go through the process of trying on clothes. Such an app would also boost online shopping even more, as many avoid online shopping because they don't know how clothes will fit them.
After thorough research on the Internet, the team was inspired by some clothing companies abroad that have started to "launch" similar applications, which use artificial intelligence. Thus, they arrived at the final version of "Fashion Lab", which, by creating an Avatar of the customer, allows him to buy the garment.
In fact, in addition to the garment in its normal form, he also buys the virtual one. Virtual clothes are digital 3D clothes created in computer programs, without the use of fabrics but only with the use of pixels, and are intended to be used in photos on social media and also to highlight the features of a garment in more detail.
The students are asking for the public's vote for the "Fashion Lab", through the platform jagreece.org/promovoting/, which will be open until April 30 for the "Public Choice Award". Since 2005, Junior Achievement Greece has been giving high school and high school students the opportunity to explore their interests, to learn how the labor market moves and how many aspects there are to creating a business, but also to learn to work together. All these qualifications and many more that they get from programs like that of "Virtual Business" are what will help them in their future career path.
