Greece is included in the top-10 outbound tourism destinations based on UNWTO data for 2021, while international interest in traveling is growing, according to the two of the most important findings of the Institute of SETE (INSETE) new study “Market Outlook: Travel behavior and economic conditions in the main inbound tourism markets.”
More specifically, Greece ranked first in the Cyprus market, second in the United Kingdom market and third in the markets of France, Israel and Serbia, fourth in the markets of Romania, Italy and Poland, fifth in Austria, sixth in Germany, Switzerland and Belgium and eighth in the Netherlands and Sweden. Regarding Mediterranean destinations, Greece is in the top-5 of the main destinations in all markets.
Also, according to data analysis by public research firm GWI, at least half of consumers in the markets under review say they are interested in traveling.
Deloitte: Recovery of business tourism
At the same time, a report by Deloitte entitled "The 2023 Business Travel Report “Navigating towards a new normal” also demonstrates the recovery of leisure tourism, which shows greater dynamics than business tourism. However, business tourism is also recovering, as the total business tourism spending for 2023 is expected to exceed 75% of the corresponding spending of 2019 – a landmark year for the global tourism industry.
Vassilis Kafatos, Partner, Growth Leader in Deloitte, said: “The new factors affecting corporate travel are bringing significant changes to the way companies are taking travel decisions. The Greek tourism industry should focus on areas and sectors such as strengthening domestic infrastructure, targeted promotion, collective action of all stakeholders, adopting high standards of safety and hygiene for travelers, as well as offering innovative digital and sustainable solutions.”
