Pakistani PM says keen to boost ties with Bangladesh

ISLAMABAD, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday expressed his keen interest in boosting ties with Bangladesh, said a statement from the prime minister's office.
 
According to the statement, Sharif held a telephone conversation with Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser to the interim government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, extending his congratulations to Yunus's appointment.
 
The prime minister highlighted the importance of revitalizing bilateral relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh through enhanced cooperation in various fields.
 
Emphasizing the historical, religious and cultural ties between the two nations, Sharif conveyed a keen interest in enhancing economic and cultural exchanges with Bangladesh, said the prime minister's office.
 
Both leaders agreed on the necessity of working closely for the mutual progress and prosperity of the people of the two countries as well as the vital role an increased regional cooperation plays in improving the lives of the people of South Asia.
 
The prime minister also expressed sympathies over the devastation caused by recent floods in Bangladesh, said the statement.
