YANGON, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's National Defense and Security Council (NDSC) on Friday extended the state of emergency in the country for six more months, state-run Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) reported.

At the NDSC's meeting held in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday, all NDSC members present agreed to extend the emergency period, the report said, adding that the extension was made in accordance with Section 425 of the State Constitution.

The extension was made due to the work required for the successful holding of the election and the need for peace and stability to implement them, the report said.

The meeting discussed issues related to election preparations, increased production of agricultural and livestock products, efforts to enhance the education sector for national development, and the health sector.

Additionally, the meeting also discussed matters related to rehabilitation works after disaster, and efforts to end armed conflicts and achieve lasting peace, the report said.

Myanmar declared a state of emergency in February 2021 for one year before making six six-month extensions until Jan. 31 this year.
