Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT), a subsidiary of COSCO Shipping Ports Limited, is marking fifteen years of dynamic and successful operations in Piraeus.

The company has become a key pillar of Greece’s maritime and port economy, consistently investing in infrastructure, innovation, and sustainable development. Alongside its subcontractors, it ranks among the largest employers in the Balkans, with a workforce exceeding 2,500.

With a strong commitment to sustainable development, PCT has adopted a comprehensive Environmental and Social Responsibility strategy. Backed by investments of over 600 million euros, major infrastructure projects—including the construction and operation of Pier III, the integration of the terminal with the national and Balkan railway networks, and the installation of state-of-the-art crane bridges—have transformed Piraeus into a leading transit hub in Europe and the Mediterranean.

The total handling capacity at Piraeus Container Terminal has increased from 1.5 million to 6.2 million TEUs, more than doubling the annual container throughput and positioning the port among the top five in Europe and as a leader in the Mediterranean.

From 2009 to 2024, the fiscal contribution—including concession fees, taxes, and social security payments—has reached 1.03 billion euros. For the 2024–2025 period, PCT has signed contracts totaling 275 million euros with more than 600 suppliers, primarily from the local community.

PCT’s achievements have earned institutional recognition through awards such as “Greek Business Champion,” “Diamonds of the Greek Economy,” and “True Leaders Awards.”

Focusing on social care, education, and the environment, the company has implemented a robust support program for schools, charities, non-profit organizations, and vulnerable groups. Since 2010, it has donated to numerous charitable causes, helping to strengthen support for those in need. For example, PCT has provided food packages to over 5,000 families.

Capt. Wang Jihang, Managing Director of PCT, stated: “The completion of 15 years of continuous growth for our company is a proud milestone for all of us.

Since 2009, we have moved forward with a clear vision: to establish Piraeus as one of the largest ports in Europe and the Mediterranean, and one of the most important globally.

Today, as we reflect on the port’s development, we see a journey marked by achievements and a substantial contribution to Greece’s economy and society—thanks to the dedication and professionalism of our team.

With a strong focus on sustainability and innovation, we continue to invest responsibly and with respect for the environment, society, and our partners.

The future of Piraeus is dynamic, and we are proud to be an active part of its progress.”

Piraeus Port Authority Sends a Message of Solidarity

The historic sailing ship Nave Italia was welcomed at the port of Piraeus by Piraeus Port Authority S.A. The vessel remained docked at the cruise pier through the end of the week. During its stay, it hosted children and young people with mental and emotional challenges, offering a unique therapeutic and educational experience at sea.

Faithful, as noted, to the values of inclusion, contribution, and social cohesion, PPA S.A. supported this important initiative by providing various facilities.

On Wednesday, June 18, the ship was visited by the Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Greece, affirming the symbolic importance of the Nave Italia mission and celebrating Greek-Italian cooperation in the field of social solidarity.

Nave Italia, a brig-type sailing ship measuring 61 meters in length and with a sail area of 1,300 square meters, is considered the largest vessel of its kind in the world and has belonged to the Italian Navy since 2007.

Its crew, in partnership with the Foundation’s expert scientific and educational team, implements innovative marine therapy programs—also known as adventure therapy—designed to foster self-esteem, teamwork, and psychological empowerment in children and youth facing psychosocial difficulties.
