LONDON, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday at Downing Street in London, the Prime Minister's Office said.
According to an official statement, the two leaders discussed Wednesday's virtual meetings hosted by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, as well as the upcoming Trump-Putin summit in the U.S. state of Alaska on Friday.
"They agreed to stay in close touch in the coming days," the statement noted, stressing their expectations for the talks in Alaska.
According to Zelensky's post on Telegram on Thursday, Ukraine and Britain coordinated their positions and exchanged views on the prospects of the upcoming meeting in Alaska.
Zelensky said he had discussed expectations for the upcoming U.S.-Russia meeting with Starmer.
The two leaders discussed in detail possible security guarantees for Ukraine that could ensure a durable peace deal if a ceasefire is reached, according to the post.
