China eyes removal of restrictions to boost auto aftermarket

BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Commerce has gathered local government officials, representatives of businesses, industry associations and research institutes to discuss removing restrictive measures on the country's auto aftermarket to further unlock consumption potential.

Vice Minister of Commerce Sheng Qiuping made the remarks while presiding over a symposium on the development of the auto aftermarket and the reform of automobile circulation, according to a statement released Friday.

Sheng said that the ministry is implementing a national plan to boost consumption by launching pilot reforms in auto circulation. The initiative supports qualified cities to deepen reforms, innovate and trial new policies to invigorate the auto aftermarket.

Discussions at the symposium centered on the spheres such as vehicle modification, recreational vehicle camping, motorsports, classic cars and automobile museums.

Officials from other central government departments, including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the General Administration of Customs and the General Administration of Sport, also attended the meeting and responded to issues and suggestions raised by participants.

Representatives of attending companies and associations expressed their commitment to actively contribute to the high-quality development of the auto aftermarket.
