JERUSALEM, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- A missile from Yemen was launched towards Israel on Thursday night, triggering sirens in Tel Aviv and other areas, Israel's military said, hours after a wave of Israeli airstrikes in Yemen.
The missile was intercepted, the Israeli military said in a statement.
Sirens were heard in central and southern Israel as well as parts of the occupied West Bank, sending millions to shelters and safe rooms in the night hours.
In the afternoon, at least eight people were killed and 142 others wounded when Israel conducted multiple airstrikes on Yemen's Houthi-held capital Sanaa, according to Houthi-run health authorities.
Israel began airstrikes on Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen in 2024 in response to missile and drone attacks launched at its territory. The Houthis say their attacks are in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza and have escalated them since Israel killed senior Houthi officials in Sanaa in August.
