UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council on Friday renewed the authorization of an EU-led stabilization force in Bosnia and Herzegovina for another 12 months.

The 15-member council unanimously adopted Resolution 2795, which re-authorizes European Union Force Althea (EUFOR ALTHEA) and the NATO presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina for a further period of 12 months, starting from the date of the adoption of the resolution.

EUFOR ALTHEA, a successor to a NATO-led stabilization force, has a mission to ensure continued compliance with the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement, which put an end to the 1992-1995 Bosnian War.

The resolution authorizes UN member states to take all necessary measures, upon request, in defense of EUFOR ALTHEA or the NATO presence respectively, and to assist both organizations in carrying out their missions.

It recognizes the right of both EUFOR ALTHEA and the NATO presence to take all necessary measures to defend themselves from attack or threat of attack.
