SHANGHAI, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Disney animation "Zootopia 2" debuted at the lone Zootopia-themed park in the world located in Shanghai Disney Resort in east China on Tuesday, ushering in a highly anticipated new chapter of this animated movie series.

The Walt Disney Company hosted the premiere via a star-studded red-carpet event, featuring both original voice cast members and the Chinese voice cast. A host of international celebrities were also in attendance in Shanghai.

"We are beyond excited to invite everyone back to the expansive animal metropolis of Zootopia to join Judy, Nick and a whole new cast of characters as they embark on their next thrilling adventure. The growing partnership of this dynamic duo is tested like never before," said Jared Bush, Disney Animation chief creative officer, writer and director.

Meanwhile, Shanghai Disney Resort has been celebrating the arrival of "Zootopia 2" by transforming the resort into a living extension of the new sequel. Guests can uncover an exciting lineup of new character clues, fresh scenes and re-imagined entertainment, making their return to Zootopia an experience filled with delightful new surprises.

"Zootopia," the first chapter in this film series, premiered in 2016 and went on to shatter multiple Chinese box office records -- and remains the highest-grossing imported animated film in China to date.

According to Walt Disney Animation Studios, "Zootopia 2" will paw its way into theaters in the Chinese mainland on Nov. 26, 2025, coinciding with its release in the United States.

Shanghai Disney Resort unveiled the world's first Zootopia land in December 2023, as the Walt Disney Company looked to further tap the growing Chinese travel market. It became the eighth themed land at this resort -- and is the world's only Zootopia-themed park.
