BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- A senior official with China's top economic planner on Friday said China's contributions to world development are tangible and its opportunities accessible, while rejecting the so-called "China squeeze" narrative as an attack and smear against China based on zero-sum thinking.

"China has been 'setting up ladders' through concrete actions to support the industrialization and green development of developing countries," said Li Chao, spokesperson of the National Development and Reform Commission, at a press conference held by the commission on Friday.

"There is no single modernization model in the world, nor universally applicable modernization standards," Li said. The misleading narrative presumes that all countries must pursue modernization using the same model and standards, or they would squeeze others' development space. "This logic is completely wrong," he said.

In just a few decades, China has completed the industrialization process that took developed countries several hundred years. It has acheived this goal by relying on institutional innovation and path exploration suited to its national conditions. This has not only provided valuable reference for other developing countries, but also contributed Chinese solutions and wisdom to humanity's exploration of better social systems, Li said.

While maintaining a reasonable share of manufacturing, China has actively promoted the optimization and upgrading of its industrial structure, improving the quality and variety of products and services to safeguard people's livelihoods while creating high-quality employment, so that the fruits of industrialization benefit all the people more extensively and equitably, he added.

"China has always been a companion on the Global South's modernization path and a sharer of development opportunities, supporting countries in pursuing modernization paths suited to their national conditions with pragmatic actions," Li said.

China's exported clean energy products have pushed down the global per-kilowatt-hour cost of wind and photovoltaic power by over 60 percent and 80 percent, respectively, bringing the green transition within reach for developing countries, Li said.

In the first seven months of this year, China's imports and exports with more than 180 countries and regions all maintained growth, he said, adding that China will continue to contribute greater strength to world development and human progress in the future.
