LIMA, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Peruvian government on Friday declared a 60-day state of emergency in Metropolitan Lima, where the country's capital is located, and the neighboring province of Callao, to address rising crime and violence.

The measure was made official through a supreme decree published in the official gazette El Peruano.

Under the emergency measure, the national police will determine intervention areas based on intelligence information, crime maps and statistics.

The decree also includes the restriction or suspension of certain constitutional rights, such as the inviolability of the home, freedom of movement and assembly.

Mass public events, including religious, cultural and sports activities, will require prior authorization.
