SHANGHAI, Sept 7 (China Economic Net) - The 58th China International Furniture Fair (CIFF Shanghai) and the 2026 China International Building & Construction Trade Fair (CBD-IBCTF) are being held concurrently from September 5 to 8 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, bringing together over 1,400 domestic and international brands across an exhibition area exceeding 220,000 square meters.

At the heart of this year’s event, the Overseas Expansion & Empowerment Summit for Interior Building Materials & Furniture witnessed a landmark moment when the China Building Materials Circulation Association and MERA PC Solutions signed a strategic partnership agreement.

Under the pact, both parties will combine their respective strengths by co-developing industrial projects, dispatching on-the-ground delegations to Pakistan, and facilitating precise supply-demand linkages. A regular cooperation mechanism will be put in place to offer Chinese home-furnishing and building-material enterprises more efficient channels to enter the Pakistani market.

Delivering a keynote presentation titled “A Blue Ocean of 240 Million People: Unlocking New Business Opportunities in Pakistan’s Home Building Materials Market,” Cindy Chen, co-founder of MERA PC, provided an analysis of Pakistan’s market potential. Drawing on nearly two decades of frontline experience in Pakistan, Chen noted that Pakistan’s local building materials supply chain remains underdeveloped, with supply gaps across mainstream categories including doors and windows, kitchen and bathroom hardware, lighting fixtures and ceramic sanitary ware.

“The Pakistani building materials market is estimated at approximately US$25 billion, growing at an annual rate of 8.5%, with immense market potential driven by both new construction and renovation demand. Fueled by urbanization and CPEC Phase II dividends, the building materials sector emerges as a natural extension of bilateral economic collaboration,” she added.

That local deficit is mirrored by global trends: the worldwide home retail market now stands at US$800 billion, expanding at 12% per year, while China’s furniture exports hit CNY 455.9 billion in 2025 and cross‑border e‑commerce exports reached CNY 473.6 billion. Chinese brands are already gaining traction in Pakistan – Times Ceramics has established a local plant, Haier appliances are household names and Bull sockets enjoy wide popularity – proving that quality Chinese products can fill the supply gap effectively.

Participants at the summit included trade and engineering sourcing representatives from Pakistan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Russia, Central Asia and the six Gulf countries, fostering momentum for industry advancement. In parallel, the event announced two scheduled business delegations to the Middle East and Pakistan, to be dispatched later this year.
