BEIJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- The China Coast Guard (CCG) on Tuesday conducted routine law-enforcement patrols in the waters east of China's Taiwan Island in accordance with the law, a spokesperson said.

Jiang Lue, a spokesperson for the CCG, said that a CCG task group led by the ship Zhujiajian has been strengthening control over the relevant waters since September. This is to effectively ensure orderly navigation and activities, and to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests, as well as the lives and property of Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

The CCG will continue to strengthen law-enforcement patrols in the waters under China's jurisdiction and resolutely safeguard China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests, the spokesperson said.

CCG task groups have maintained routine patrols in the relevant waters over recent months.

Also on Tuesday, a spokesperson of the CCG Donghai Branch said the coast guard of east China's Fujian Province has conducted routine law-enforcement patrols in accordance with the law in the waters near Kinmen since the beginning of September.

Task groups have been dispatched to strengthen control and management over relevant waters, said Zhu Anqing, adding that the move is an effective step to protect the legitimate rights and interests, as well as the lives and property of fishermen on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and to ensure orderly navigation and activities.

Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu are all parts of China. Law enforcement patrols carried out by the mainland coast guard in the relevant waters are reasonable and lawful, and are conducive to maintaining maritime operational order and protecting people from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
