Immigrant asylum seekers who have been agreed to be accepted in Lithuania will be guaranteed "fair enough" living conditions, Saulius Skvernelis, Minister of the Interior of Lithuania, said on Tuesday.

The 325 migrants in Lithuania, agreed within the EU, is an "optimum" for the Baltic country, he added.

The minister also said migrants would not put in risk neither national security nor public order.

"All the departments under the Ministry of Interior will do the job to secure the safety," Skvernelis said in an interview with the local broadcaster Ziniu Radijas.

Last week, Skvernelis visited Lithuanian town Jonava and Rukla Refugees Reception Center, based in Jonava district. Skvernelis assured local administration and residents of Jonava that no any threats for national or interior security should arise from accepting more asylum seekers.

While visiting Jonava, Skvernelis mentioned Lithuania will try to make sure that the people that are to be relocated in the country shall meet the country's labor market demands, as well as Lithuanian social, cultural and historic tradition aspects.

During negotiations last month, it was agreed that within the period of two years Lithuania will accept 325 persons in need of international protection.

According to the Ministry of Interior, 70 people will be resettled from third countries and another 255 relocated from Italy and Greece.

The number of people was defined by each country's gross domestic product (GDP) as well as by the total number of the inhabitance.

The EU recently struggles to deal with record numbers of illegal migrants fleeing conflicts in their home countries, with several EU member states refusing to place immigrants on their territory.
