German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said Monday there is no change in his country's policy towards Greece.
The German government's goal remains to further strengthen the euro zone that "includes Greece," Seibert said during a regular press conference in Berlin.
Germany's leading news magazine Spiegel reported Saturday that German Chancellor Angela Merkel was prepared to let Greece leave the euro zone if Greeks elect a government that jettisons the country's current austerity measures.
The German government was criticized for interfering in the electoral campaign in Greece by exerting pressure on Athens.
Seibert rejected those accusations on Monday, saying Germany respects the sovereign decision by Greek voters.
The spokesman also noted that Greece has made long-term reform commitments for getting loans, and those commitments go beyond the Greek government's current legislative period.
