Political disputes continue, with Moscow blaming Kiev for the downing of civilian flight MH17, and Kiev and many western governments pointing the finger back at Moscow. But as our correspondent Tom Barton tells us, on Russia's streets, there have been more expressions of sadness and apology.

We're here outside the Dutch embassy in Moscow. People here have been coming to lay flowers and to write notes saying how sad they feel after the tragedy of MH17 which crashed in the east of Ukraine.

And many of them feel, perhaps agreeing with governments around the world, some of them saying that, the politics at the very least, of Russian and Ukraine and that situation helped to create this tragedy.

And they feel very sorry, many of the notes here testify to that sorrow and they've asked for forgiveness for themselves and for Russia in this role.

"What do I feel? Pain. Because it's scary when people suffer because of the ambitions of the politicians and leaders," a russian woman said.

"Russian people are very feeling. And when children die, it's very…,(can't speak more)" a russian woman said.

Russia's defence ministry says that it did not shoot down that plane. And Russian president Vladimir Putin says that as far as he is concerned Ukraine is to blame by creating this situation he says, in the east of the country, blaming them for the fighting which he says lead to the situation in which the jet was shot down.

Whether they agree or disagree or disagree many Russians coming here feel that the situation was totally unnecessary.
