German Chancellor Angela Merkel telephoned Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak on Wednesday to express her condolences over the MH17 crash in Ukraine last Thursday.

An officer of the Prime Minister's Office said that Merkel sent her condolences to Malaysia over the MH17 tragedy and said German was prepared to assist Malaysia.

Merkel also expressed her appreciation over the efforts taken by Malaysia to handle the situation.
