The Guardian newspaper's columnist Glenn Greenwald, who is in close contact with the US whistleblower Edward Snowden, says he may reveal details of more NSA surveillance programs.
Glenn Greenwald told the Associated Press in Brazil that Edward Snowden has very sensitive detailed blueprints on NSA surveillance programs. But he said Snowden has always insisted that nothing that would harm the United States should be published.
"He is in possession of, literally, thousands of documents that contain very specific blueprints that would allow somebody who read them to know exactly how the NSA does what it does, which would in turn allow them either to evade that surveillance or to replicate it," Glenn Greenwald said.
Greenwald said he's almost daily contact with the former NSA contractor.
He said he will publishing further stories based on other documents over the next four months.
"There are other domestic spying programmes that have yet to be revealed, similar in nature to the ones we have revealed. Or not similar in nature, but similar in scope, that we are working on some of those. Also, being able to inform people about the true severity of how much each NSA analyst has access to people's personal private communications with very little oversight, checks, or safeguards," Glenn Greenwald said.
Since leaving from Hong Kong on June 23, Edward Snowden has been stuck in the transit area of Moscow's main international airport and his future is uncertain. But Greenwald says Snowden has no regrets.
"Even with the ridiculously severe and stressful situation that he has been placed in over the last three weeks, I haven't at all sensed an iota of regret or remorse or anxiety over the situation that he is in. He is, of course, tense and focused on securing his short term well-being to the best extent that he can, but he is very resigned to the fact that things might go terribly wrong and he absolutely is at peace with that," Glenn Greenwald said.
If Snowden is granted asylum by Russia, he may fly on to Venezuela, Nicaragua or Bolivia.
