Huawei unveils new smartphones at Mobile World Congress

Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei on Monday unveiled its Ascend D series of smart-phones at the Mobile World Congress, which opened this Monday in the city of Barcelona.

Huawei Chairman Richard Yu confirmed that his company has a target of selling 60 million smart-phones in 2012, an increase of 40 million units on 2011.

"We want the best performance in the industry, because our brand is not that famous," said Yu in Barcelona.

He added that the new phones would be "competitively," priced, and confirmed that the company was as preparing to launch a tablet with an HD screen and a processor which could match those of rivals by industry giant Apple.

Huawei expects to see between the domestic market account for between 30 and 40 percent of its projected increase in sales this year.

The Mobile World Congress brings together around 1,400 exhibitors and 60,000 industry professionals in what is the most important mobile telecommunications event of the year.
