The passage of a bill by the U.S. Senate to empower the Department of Commerce to impose countervailing duties on Chinese imports is not in line with the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Minister of Commerce Chen Deming said Wednesday.
The minister's remarks at a press conference came after the U.S. Senate on Monday passed a bill to empower the Department of Commerce to impose the controversial countervailing duties on imports from China and Vietnam.
Chen reiterated that China will only follow rules of those international organizations it has joined. In terms of economy and trade, for example, China follows the rules of the WTO when it acceded to the WTO as a new member and a developing economy 11 years ago.
"But we don't have the obligation to abide by any country's domestic laws and regulations that are not in line with the rules of international organizations," Chen said. |
