As one of the nation's top technology hubs, Beijing Zhongguancun is showcasing its latest achievements in innovation and creativity at the China Beijing International High-Tech Expo underway from May 23 to 27.

Since its establishment three years ago, Zhongguancun demonstration zone, along with its many companies have been a national pilot for technical innovation and system reform, "contributing greatly to promoting an innovative nation and helping Beijing build a world city", said the zone's administrative officials.

This year's expo has an exhibition area of 3,200 square meters for more than 100 companies based in the demonstration zone, including many small companies and startups. More than 80 percent of them are making their debut at the annual industry fair, which is now in its 15th year.

The expo is seen as an international stage for Zhongguancun to spotlight its leading role in national reform and innovation while promoting home-developed brands, noted organizers.

Zhongguancun is highlighting many of its latest products and technologies in a number of strategic sectors including fourth-generation telecommunications, home-developed satellite navigation, life sciences, environment protection and the creative industry.

It is introducing the concept of the "intelligent city" at the expo, which puts the focus on an overall solution to modern life. As a national innovation center, it is showcasing its contribution to the development of companies and technical advancement.

Multimedia displays, multi-touch screens and high-tech interaction are employed at Zhongguancun's booths to show the improved policies and environment that encourage companies to innovate.

Displays also depict how the zone has developed its market-oriented innovation system that combines production with research and academic study.

Exhibits include the Miui smartphone with the world's fasted dual-core CPU as well as a comprehensive traffic monitoring system developed by Beijing Vion Technology Inc and an e-business service platform developed by Union Mobile Pay Co Ltd.

The products represent the latest in China's home-developed technologies in several sectors including telecommunications, mobile Internet, intelligent traffic and IT services, said Zhongguancun officials.

Other products on show are designed to assist social development and people's livelihood, including innovations in life science, healthcare, energy conservation and new energy.

Among the displays include a seawater desalination system developed by Scinor Membrane Technology Co Ltd and an orthopedic robot by Tinavi Medical Technologies Co Ltd.
