Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-01-15 08:21

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in Riyadh Saturday evening on an official visit to Saudi Arabia to further boost bilateral ties and cooperation.

Sino-Saudi ties have enjoyed all-around and rapid development since the establishment of diplomatic links 22 years ago, said Wen in a written statement upon arrival.

The premier said the two countries have demonstrated mutual understanding and support on key issues of common concern, and cooperation in all sectors has been fruitful, adding that the two sides have already become "good friends, good brothers and good partners."

China views its relationship with Saudi Arabia from a strategic and long-term perspective and is willing to work with the kingdom in promoting cooperation so as to benefit the two countries and their peoples, he said.

It is the first visit to the Middle East country by a Chinese premier in 20 years.

During his visit, Wen is expected to meet with King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz and Crown Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Wen arrived here after a short official visit to Nepal on Saturday.
