Senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Zhou Yongkang on Monday urged judicial departments to satisfy the people with their work and bolster social harmony and stability.

Courts and procuratorates at various levels should serve the people honestly and fairly, accept supervision from the public, settle disputes in line with the law, and help promote scientific development, said Zhou, secretary of the Committee of Political and Legislative Affairs of the CPC Central Committee.

He made the remarks when joining in a panel discussion with lawmakers from northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region at the ongoing parliamentary session.

Zhou, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, expressed appreciation for the development of Ningxia last year.

Ningxia should seize the opportunities when the country is exerting more efforts in boosting economic development and reducing poverty in the western region, he said.

The region should work to reshape the economic zone along the Yellow River and well relocate people from the areas not suitable for human inhabitation, he said.

While exploiting coal and water resources, the region should pay more attention to sustainable development and environmental protection, Zhou said.
