State Councilor Ma Kai on Friday met with Jim Ferland, the new president and CEO of the Westinghouse Electric Company.

Ma said cooperation between Chinese and U.S. enterprises on third-generation nuclear technology has provided a new option for the peaceful use of nuclear power, secured sustainable energy development and helped to address the problem of climate change, according to a news release issued after the meeting.

During their meeting, both men pledged to make full efforts to carry out existing joint projects and boost cooperation regarding nuclear power, the release said.

Ferland was appointed president and CEO in January to replace Aris Candris, who will step down on March 31.
