Hu: HK residents enjoy broad range of democratic rights, freedoms

Chinese President Hu Jintao said here Sunday morning that Hong Kong residents now enjoy the range of democratic rights and freedoms that they had never done before.

"Never before have Hong Kong residents enjoyed the range of democratic rights and freedoms as they do now," said Hu in a speech at the inaugural ceremony of the fourth-term government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) and the swearing- in of Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.

 

Hu vows to remain committed to "one country, two systems"

Chinese President Hu Jintao said here Sunday the central government will remain committed to the principles of "one country, two systems," "Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong" and a high degree of autonomy.

The central government will unswervingly give its full support to the chief executive and government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in administering Hong Kong pursuant to law, while working with the local residents to maintain and promote the long-term prosperity and stability of the territory, Hu said at the inaugural ceremony of the fourth-term government of the HKSAR, led by Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.

 

Hu urges new HKSAR gov't to promote harmony, stability

Chinese President Hu Jintao on Sunday morning urged the just-inaugurated government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) to promote social harmony and stability.

Harmony and stability underpin development, while improving people's livelihood is essential for building a harmonious and stable society, said Hu in a speech at the inaugural ceremony of the fourth-term government of the SAR and the swearing-in of Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.

 

President Hu says Hong Kong should enhance competitiveness

Chinese President Hu Jintao said Sunday Hong Kong should enhance its competitiveness amid increasingly intense regional and international competition.

Hu said Hong Kong has registered steady economic growth and remained an international financial, trade and shipping center despite the impact of the international financial crisis.
