Vice Premier Wang Qishan on Monday called for closer cooperation between Chinese and Australian enterprises as he met with a group of Australian businessmen.

"The Chinese and the Australian economies are highly complementary," Wang said during his meeting with the Australian delegation, headed by Andrew Forrest, chairman of the Fortescue Metals Group.

Deepening pragmatic cooperation is conducive to boosting the economic growth and employment of the two nations, said the vice premier.

Wang said he hopes enterprises from both sides will boost cooperation in trade, investment, finance, energy, resources, tourism, infrastructure and other sectors to advance Chinese-Australian cooperation in a healthy and stable way.

The Australian businessmen pledged to make efforts to boost cooperation with their Chinese partners and make contributions to furthering economic ties between the two nations.
