Top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Friday urged the nation to inherit the spirit of noted Chinese writer Lu Xun and contribute to China's cultural prosperity.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks at the launch of the Lu Xun Cultural Foundation, as well as the annual Lu Xun Forum.

Lu Xun is the pride of the Chinese nation, as he embodies patriotism and the "spirit of Chinese nation," said Jia.

Lu Xun was the pen name of late author Zhou Shuren (1881-1936). He is considered by many to be the father of modern Chinese literature.

Lu made great efforts to awaken the nation through his writing in the early 20th century and made large contributions to China's national liberation, Jia said, adding that Lu's spirit has also played a role in uniting the whole nation and enhancing national confidence.

The establishment of the cultural foundation is a commemoration of the great "writer, ideologist and revolutionist" and will aid in the passing-on of cultural heritage, said Jia.

It will also promote China's cultural reforms, which will be addressed at the upcoming 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Jia said.

He urged the foundation to utilize resources at home and abroad to contribute to energizing China's cultural cause and boosting the global influence of Chinese culture.
