Libyan military police took control on Saturday night of the Libyan side of the main border crossing of Ras El Jedir, the official Tunisian TAP press agency reported Sunday.
The border crossing, which was under the control of Libyan militants, has been the scene of clashes lately between Tunisian border guards and those Libyans manning it.
The heavily armed new Libyan military police unit was ready to combat the militants, but the latter withdrew without a battle, TAP said, quoting Tunisian security sources.
The border crossing, which is now in the hands of a regular unit, will enable a better control and a better management of the increasing traffic between both countries, TAP said. |
