A meeting that brings together the Malian transitional government, the armed groups in the northern parts of the country and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will be held soon, Burkina Faso's Foreign Minister Djibril Bassole said on Friday in Bamako.
Burkina Faso President Blaise Compaore who is the ECOWAS mediator in the Malian crisis, "could propose a plan to end the crisis through the meeting that brings together the Malian government, the northern rebels and ECOWAS," Bassole said.
Bassole was speaking in the company of Adama Bictogo, Cote d'Ivoire's African Integration Minister, after meeting with Mali's interim president Dioncounda Traore.
On Thursday, the two ministers met with the head of the National Committee for the Redressment of Democracy and Restoration of the State (CNRDRE), captain Amadou Sanogo.
"All the presidents within the ECOWAS zone have agreed to do everything possible to ensure that cohesion is restored in Mali and they are working with the international community to ensure that the country regains its territorial integrity," Burkina Faso's head of diplomacy said. |
