Secretary General of Egyptian Higher Presidential Election Commission (HPEC) Hatem Bagato said Saturday that 52 organizations from home or abroad will monitor the presidential election slated for Wednesday.
"Three foreign organizations and 49 local ones will observe the coming election. HPEC have granted 243 and 9,534 licenses for their observers respectively," said Bagato.
"There are more than 50 million Egyptians voters inside Egypt. And to guarantee their inborn rights, the commission will deploy 14,500 lawyers national wide," said Bagato, adding that there will be 1,200 female lawyers designated to help female voters inside the voting station.
He asserted that without warrants no one can enter the voting station, and outside the voting station all presidential campaigns are strictly banned.
Bagato also slammed rumors and reports doubting the credibility of the voting outside Egypt, by saying that "cheating is no good for anyone."
He noted that coordination has been carried out between the police and the armed forces to secure the election.
The presidential vote is scheduled on May 23 and May 24, with the run-off on June 16 and June 17. A power transfer from the ruling military council to a civilian government is supposed to be on June 30. |
