Yerewoloton movement wants current Malian gov't maintained
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-07-14 17:38

The Yerewoloton movement which is a member of the Coordination of Patriotic Organizations of Mali (COPAM, pro-coup d'etat), on Friday reiterated its support for the current transition government that is led by Cheick Modibo Diarra and proposed "a two year transition period."

"Given the current situation in the country, we propose a two years transition period and the setting up of a transitional legislative council which will replace the current parliament. This will ensure the continuation of the legislative functions instead of just extending the term of the current parliamentarians, " said Boubacar Bore, the movement's chairman who was addressing the press in Bamako.

Towards the end of June, the Malian parliament adopted a law extending the term of members of parliament until the end of the transition period.

Elsewhere, Bore said that "Yerowoloton and its allies support the transition government in its bid to reconquer the occupied northern towns and organize free, fair and transparent elections."

The movement further voiced its support for the holding of a national convention that will adopt, among other things, a new Constitution which will usher in the IV Republic.
