Germany has agreed to accept some 200 refugees from a refugee camp located about 7 km from the Tunisia-Libyan border, TAP reported on Friday.
After 18 months of waiting, the 200 refugees, mostly from the Sudan, Eritrea and Somalia, will fly from Djerba to Hanover on Monday onboard a German charter flight.
The refugees, who will fill part of the 300 annual quota set by Germany, will be relocated in several areas in the country after a 10-day sojourn in a transit center.
In order to facilitate their integration, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees organized an orientation program for them. The refugees will also benefit from a language training program.
During the early days of the civil war in Libya, the camp hosted some 7,000 refugees fleeing the violence. Accommodation by some European countries as well as the United States, Canada and Australia, has brought the number down to a little over 2,000. |
