Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-11-09 18:05

Egyptian security forces arrested Thursday a Jihadist leader accused of implementing terrorist operations in Arish, the capital city of North Sinai Governorate.

Security sources told Xinhua Ahmed Allaam al-Khefny was arrested in an apartment in Arish's district of Zohour, adding that the Egyptian police also confiscated his lap-top.

Khefny was sentenced to 25 years in prison in September for participating in assaulting police and security officers guarding Arish police station and a bank in June, 2011.

The attack over Arish police station left seven people killed and 16 policemen injured.

On Tuesday, an Egyptian checkpoint was attacked by some extremists in Arish, leaving one police officer injured.

Earlier this month, Egyptian Interior Minister Ahmed Gamal ordered to sack the security chief of North Sinai over an assault by local militants on a police car in Arish, which left three policemen killed and another one injured.
