Alliance of Malian political parties to boycott consultative talks
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-11-22 18:01

The Alliance of Patriotic Democrats for Ending the Crisis (ADPS), a grouping of political parties and civil society groups, said on Wednesday that it will not participate in the national consultative talks that are scheduled to take place on Nov. 26-28.

Speaking during a press conference held in Bamako, the APDS Secretary General Koulougna Edmond Dembele said the alliance will not attend the talks because of "an unclear agenda as well as the lack of proper representation of all Malian citizens."

However, APDS proposed the holding of round-table talks by latest on Dec. 1 to come up with a clear agenda.

At the same time, the APDS voiced its opposition to organization of elections before the recapture of the Northern regions of Mali.

"Voting is a right of all Malians and therefore elections should only be held after the liberation of the occupied zones," the group said in the statement.

The group further raised objection to the Burkina Faso mediation in the Malian crisis. It accused the Burkina Faso President Blaise Compaore of "terming the crisis as something that had divided the Malians living in the north from those living in the south, yet that is not the case."

During the same press conference, ADPS expressed its categorical refusal for the idea of negotiating with rebel groups like the Ansar Dine and the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA).

While responding to the statement by Romano Prodi, the UN special envoy for the Sahel, that a military intervention in Northern Mali will not be possible before September 2013, Dembele pointed out that such a statement is meant to force Malians to discuss with MNLA and Ansar Dine.
