Mozambique supports peaceful solution for Guinea-Bissau, Mali crises
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-12-27 07:48

Mozambican President Armando Guebuza on Wednesday voiced support for a peaceful solution to the Guinea-Bissau and Mali crises.

Mozambique currently holds the presidency of the Community of the Portuguese Speaking Countries, which has the mandate to intervene in member state Guinea-Bissau if necessary.

"We note with worry what happened in Guinea-Bissau and Mali, which resulted in instability and hindered the progress achieved in the consolidation of democracy," Guebuza told the Mozambique News Agency (AIM).

"Our intervention has been a peaceful resolution of the conflicts and for the national promotion of dialogue and reconciliation to promote peace and international stability," he added.

The UN Security Council recently adopted a resolution to authorize a military intervention in Mali to quench the northern rebels linked to Al-Qaida.

Mali and Guinea-Bissau suffered a military coup respectively in March and April. Although the junta transferred power to a transitional government soon afterwards, the situation remains tense in both countries.
