Senegal army has denied its military presence in Mali to support the Malian army fighting rebels forces who have occupied the northern part of the country.

There's not a single Senegalese soldier in Mali to fight against the armed Islamist groups that are occupying the Northern parts of the country, the head of the Public Relations Department (DIRPA), Adama Diop, said on Friday when he spoke on the Senegalese national television.

"There's no Senegalese soldier on the Malian territory," he said while terming information alluding to the intervention of Senegalese soldiers in Mali as "baseless rumors."

The day Senegal will send soldiers to Mali, the public will be informed, he added while also pointing out that Senegal was ready to intervene in Mali under the auspices of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Elsewhere, a statement released after a Cabinet meeting held in Dakar, indicated that President Macky Sall was deeply concerned with the deteriorating security situation in Mali.

The statement pointed out that the Senegalese president "was concerned with the serious threats that the current crisis has created for a friendly country, and especially for the population living in the combat zones."

The president reaffirmed Senegal's position which is in support of restoring Mali's territorial integrity.

He further affirmed Senegal's support for the "ongoing international mobilization, in conformity to the request by the Malian authorities, to ensure immediate implementation of resolution 2085 of the UN Security Council which authorized the deployment of the International Support Mission in Mali.
