Egypt extradited on Tuesday two former Libyan officials under the rule of ex-leader Muammar Gaddafi, the state-run MENA news agency reported.

Former Libyan Ambassador to Cairo Ali Mohamed al-Amin Maria, and Mohamed Ibrahim Mansour, an ex-finance official were extradited to Tripoli via a private Libyan plane, the report said.

The deportations are in line with a decision issued Sunday by Egyptian Prosecutor-General Talaat Ibrahim Abdullah to hand over the two officials to the Libyan authorities, after an investigation confirmed that all legal conditions for extradition were met.

Maria and Mansour were arrested a week ago in Cairo over corruption charges claimed by the Libyan authorities.

Ahmed Gaddaf al-Dam, former coordinator of Libyan-Egyptian relations, was also arrested over similar charges last Tuesday. But the papers requesting his extradition have not yet been received, said counselor Kamel Girgis, head of Egypt's general prosecution's international cooperation office.

Gaddaf al-Dam was also being interrogated for opening fire at the Egyptian police officers assigned by the Interpol to arrest him. One policeman was wounded by him.

Egypt and Libya signed Saturday a legal and judicial memorandum of understanding to guarantee fair trial of extradited defendants to be applied once Egypt agrees to extradite recently-arrested Libyan ex-officials.

The memo was signed by justice ministers and prosecutors- general of both sides.

Under the memo, the extradited defendants must be tried before ordinary courts in line with international standards and conditions, including granting them the right to defense during interrogations and trial stages.
