Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-01-28 04:43

A senior U.S. diplomat in charge of Asian affairs will travel to South Korea, Vietnam and Cambodia next week, the State Department announced on Friday.

Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kurt Campbell will be in South Korea from Tuesday to Wednesday to meet with senior government officials, said the department.

The statement added that the talks there will touch on a range of bilateral, regional, and global issues, including recent developments on the Korean peninsular.

At a regular briefing, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters that Campbell's visit to Seoul will continue consultation on efforts to get the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to "come clean on its nuclear program and come back to the table."

From Wednesday to Friday, Campbell will visit Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, to meet with senior Vietnamese leaders to discuss bilateral and regional issues and "seek progress on initiatives to deepen bilateral ties," said the statement.

From Friday to Saturday, he will be in Cambodia to meet with senior Cambodian government officials to discuss areas of mutual interest, including Cambodia's role as 2012 ASEAN chair, and to discuss ways to further strengthen the bilateral engagement.
