A school bus crash in Indianapolis, Indiana State of the United States left the driver and one student dead on Monday, two other students also hospitalized with "critical" injuries and 10 more with non-life threatening injuries, officials said.
The school bus, on its way to Lighthouse Charter School, crashed just short of its destination in Indianapolis' Southeast Side.
According to Rita Burris, a spokeswoman for the Indianapolis Fire District, the cause of the accident is still unknown. Burris confirmed that the student who died was a young girl and that the driver was male, but she did not release any additional information on the victims' background.
The bus was transporting around 50 students, ranging from kindergarten to high school students.
According to the Indianapolis Star, the two critically injured students and others requiring medical attention were rushed to nearby hospitals.
Following the accident, all classes at Lighthouse Charter School were canceled for the rest of the day. |
